सहकर्मी नीथिन मोहानन जी कोच्ची, केरल से अपने घर की कुछ तस्वीरें साझा करते हुए बताते हैं कि ये फूलों की रंगोली मलयालम में “अथापूव/athapoov” कहलाती है।
इसे बनाने में उनका , उनकी बहन और माता पिता का योगदान है। इसके लिए सभी फूलों को आस पड़ोस से घरों से इकट्ठा किया गया है।
इसके अलावा वे बताते हैं कि आज घर पर एक खास तरह का पकवान बनेगा जिसे “ओनासाध्या” कहते हैं। वे जल्द उसकी तस्वीर भी साझा करेंगे।
नीथिन सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी के क्षेत्र में बतौर अभियंता काम करते हैं, तमाम पौराणिक मान्यताओं के बीच उनकी ओणम के बारे में क्या जानकारी है यह जानना रोचक है। वे कहते हैं –
“यह महाबली के स्वागत के लिए मनाया जाता है, यह एक मिथक है कि केरल एक बार शासक महाबली द्वारा शासित था, जहां वह असुरों का राजा था, इसलिए देवताओं को जलन होती थी और विष्णु के अवतार वामन उनके सामने प्रकट हुए और 3 फीट भूमि मांगी और महाबली ने आश्वासन दिया कि आप ले सकते हैं। विष्णु बड़े हो गए और सारी भूमि ले ली और फिर महाबली को भूमिगत भेज दिया जहां से उन्हें हर साल ओणम पर केरल आने का सौभाग्य मिला। वामन विष्णु के 5वें अवतार हैं।”

It's celebrated to welcome mahabali , it's a myth saying that Kerala was once ruled by ruler mahabali where he was from asurans so the gods become jealous and Vishnu's incarnation vamanan appeared before him and ask for 3 feet land and mahabali assured that u can take it then Vishnu became large and taken the whole land and then send mahabali to underground

“प्रज्ञा ये रंगोली अथापुकालम है।”
“मैं केरल के अलाप्पुझा से हूं…तस्वीर में पीछे मेरा घर है, यह रंगोली मैंने बनाई है।”
“यह भोजन नहीं है, यह एक पारंपरिक रिवाज है.. ओणम त्योहार के दौरान इसका पालन किया जाता है इसे ओनासादयम कहते हैं।”
“वास्तव में यह 10 दिनों का उत्सव है, स्वागत करने के लिए .. महाबली का स्वागत .. केरल पर शासन करने वाले पूर्व राजा।”
“हमने पहले दिन से आखिरी दिन तक फूलों का कालीन बनाया, वह आखिरी दिन है थिरुवोनम इस फूल कालीन को अथापूकालम नाम दिया गया है”

"I am from Alappuzha...in Kerala. In this photo I am sitting in front of my house , I have made this athapookalam.
And this is not food , it's a traditional custom.. followed during onam festival. Actually it's a 10 day celebration, to welcome.. mahabali..the former king who ruled Kerala.
We made flower carpet, from first day upto last day, that is Thiruvonam ❤️.......This flower carpet is named as athapookalam"
अयाना के घर चार के ओणम की प्रथा है, वे बताती हैं:
“हम ओणम के 4 दिन मनाते हैं, आज मुख्य ओणम है, जिसे थिरुवोनम कहा जाता है। हमने कल रात ओणम का स्वागत थ्रीकेरप्पन से किया जो असुरों के राजा महाबली का प्रतीक है।”
“आज हमारे पास सदया या दावत होगी।”
“हम मलयालम कैलेंडर अथम से 10 दिन पहले ओणम की तैयारी शुरू कर देते हैं।”
उस तिथि से हम पुकलम या फूलों की रंगोली बनाना शुरू करेंगे, उस दिन से १०वें दिन तक तिरुवोनम होता है। उनमें से अधिकांश नई पोशाक पहनते हैं जिसे ओनाक्कोडी कहते हैं जो उनके प्रियजन या परिवार के वरिष्ठ सदस्य द्वारा उन्हें उपहार में दी जाती है।

"We have 4 days of onam, today is the main onam, called thiruvonam. We welcomed the onam yesterday night with thrikerappan which is the symbol of mahabali king of asura. Today we will have sadya or feast. We will start preparation of onam 10 days before from the malayalam calender Atham. From that date onwards we will start creating pookalam or flower rangoli, from that day to the 10th day is the thiruvonam. Most of them wear new dress or say onakkodi which is gifter to them by their loved one or senior member of the family."
